New research from IDC suggests chief digital officers could become permanent members of the C-suite in some organizations.
-
With CIOs maxed out, some CDOs offer digital products and services previously unavailable to an organization.
- Not every organization needs a CDO, though, according to the report. In some cases, the CIO and the CMO can collaborate to drive digital innovation and transformation.
Dive Insight:
The CDO role was originally viewed as a temporary position for some organizations, but with many CIOs fully immersed in infrastructure, some companies are tapping CDOs to take a more permanent role managing customer experience, innovation and more.
The report noted, however, that hiring a CDO doesn't mean the CIO can’t participate in an organization's digital transformation.
