Dive Insight:
Throughout the last 22 years, the USPTO has issued IBM more patents than any other company.
David Kaminsky, chief patent innovation architect for IBM software, said IBM is adding to its intellectual property to help ensure that the company will be a significant player in the cloud market going forward.
The patents cover a range of technologies for the cloud, including technologies that help enterprise-level computing services become more reliable, as well as some that address challenges in securing cloud services.
Kaminsky did not say how IBM will incorporate these technologies into its own cloud services.
Nonetheless, “the areas of innovations that we demonstrated in these patents are things that are important to the ideal cloud,” he said.
