In addition to South Korea, the countries topping the list were Ireland, Hong Kong, Sweden and the Netherlands. Within the U.S., Delaware, Virginia, the District of Columbia, Utah and Massachusetts came out on top.
The report found the overall average speed worldwide has been increasing by 30% year over year. Akamai predicts speeds will continue to improve given continuing demand driven by the increasing number of connected devices.
“From rudimentary Internet-connected smartphones in 2008 to sensors in nearly any imaginable device in 2015, the so-called Internet of Things will continue to drive massive increases in Internet usage,” said David Belson, senior director of industry and data intelligence at Akamai.
